poster vernissage
mandate
My challenge was to design a poster for the 2021 Dawson’s Graphic Design vernissage. It was an interesting opportunity to analyze the 2021 students’ spirit and translate it into a poster that reflects it perfectly. It was challenging for me to find a proper way to tackle this project because of how ambiguous I'd see the vernissage in my mind, however I was able to overcome this problem by exploring concept options about what does graphic design means for me.

insight
I decided to use morse code as my main concept; this is because throughout the three years at graphic design at Dawson, our focus was to decipher design challenges and learn how to de-code design so that we can find our own voices as designers. It doesn't only represent what our three years at Dawson were, but it also shows how a graphic designer works; we decipher problems. The big numbers saying 2021 are made out of their morse code translation so that the public will be faced with somewhat the same challenge as we were faced when at Dawson; to de-code the contents of the poster.

outcome
The poster shows the 2021 numbers written with shapes as the main visual element. The vibrant colors contrasting with the dark background adds personality to the poster and reflects the variety of design happening among the different students this year. The colors also helped to convey the energy of us all as a generation.
